R.S. Lesson: March 25, 2018

Sister Jasperson from the Stake R.S. Presidency taught the lesson last Sunday.

We separated into seven groups and talked about D&C 11:10. Here are the groups, and some of what we found significant about our part of this verse. I hope my notes make sense!
1. Behold thou hast a gift:  We all have individual gifts that will expand as we share and develop them.
2. or:  Sometimes we're doing great, and sometimes we're not, but it's always important to keep an eternal perspective.
3. thou shalt have a gift:  Try to have patience when we want something.  It's a promise. "Thou shalt have."
4. if:  Conditional clause in parent-child relationship between us and Heavenly Father
5. thou wilt desire of me:  We need to ask and also desire. Deep want with the realization that it requires an action to use the gift when we get it.
6. in faith, with:  Are we "in faith?" We're here. Sometimes we have to do hard things. Always remember the "old reliables": scripture study, prayer, and attending church. These things have tremendous power to help us keep our faith strong.
7. an honest heart:  Heavenly Father knows our hearts and will help us with direction if we're willing to listen.
Sister Jasperson shared a thought from Elder Pimentel's Stake Conference talk:

"In order to become, we need to
do and say as the Savior has."

She said the "wow" feeling isn't enough anymore. We need to DO and SAY. We come to learn. We should have a notebook in our hands. That's part of doing. She keeps sticky notes in her notebook so she can use them to add tabs for emphasis and further learning/clarification.

She challenged all of us to bring a notebook/journal every Sunday.

Discussion Suggestion:  Do any of the seven sections resonate particularly strongly with you? If so, please share with us in the comments!

  1. I'm going to start notebooking so I can underline my scriptures when I get home. I use my phone at church.

  3. Additional insights: I was impressed by the term “honest heart”. When we ask the Lord for something, we know that sometimes the answer may be difficult and may mean additional growing opportunities but we still ask with an honest and willing heart to act on those promptings and that faith is what allows us to obtain those gifts that will always take work to either recognize or obtain.

  4. I was also impressed by the activity Sister Jasperson played. She had Sister Gina Goss leave the room and look through the peephole for a minute. While Gina was out of the room sister Jasperson handed a present and a candle and some other object to sisters on either side of the room. Then Gina was brought back in the room and Sister Jasperson asked her what she saw? This was very poignant. Gina said she didn’t see much, just a gift given on one side of the room. This was a really cool perspective sometimes when we look through people on our life we don’t see the whole picture we don’t see the blessings we don’t always see the light that comes into our lives and often we can see the present we can see the past but we can’t see the future. The three gifts that sister Jasperson handed out represented the past the present and the future. Then Sister Jasperson had us discuss in groups what each meant us.My group was the future and we determined that regardless of age we are eternal beings and so we have infinite opportunities to repent and infinite opportunities to forgive. The best part is the choices we make now which impact our future:)
