R.S. Lesson: May 20, 2018

On the 20th we had a special two-hour “ultimate sister bonding” celebration of the Relief Society’s 173rd birthday.

We talked about ministering, which gives us an opportunity to personally nurture and strengthen each other. As Sister Beck has said, “A sister in this Church has no other responsibility outside of her family that has the potential to do as much good…”  “Because we follow the example and teachings of Jesus Christ, we value this sacred assignment to love, know, serve, understand, teach, and minister in His behalf.”

President Monson said, “We are surrounded by those in need of our attention, our encouragement, our support, our comfort, our kindness. … We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children. He is dependent upon each of us.”

We are like angels on the Lord’s errand. We can lift each other high enough to overcome the obstacles we are meant to face.

From “Certain Women” by Sister Beck, “we learn…that certain women are disciples centered in the Savior Jesus Christ and have hope through the promise of His atoning sacrifice.

Sister Allred expanded this to two lists: what Certain Women are, and what Certain Women do.

Certain Women are:
  • Convinced
  • Positive
  • Confident
  • Firm
  • Definite
  • Assured
  • Dependable
  • Disciples of Christ
  • Witnesses in the work of salvation
  • Imperfect
  • Inspiring
  • Centered in the Savior
  • Covenant-keeping
  • Examples
  • Uncompromising in standards
  • Grateful
  • Hard working

Certain Women do:
  • Exercise faith in Christ and His atonement
  • Learn and live His teachings
  • Testify of His ministry, miracles, and majesty
  • Minister to others
  • Have hope
  • Invite others to come and see
  • Sacrifice
  • Strive to live the gospel
  • Bless the lives of others
  • Center their life on the Savior
  • Bear Christ-centered witness frequently
  • Serve valiantly
  • Mentor
  • Share others’ burdens
  • Work on their own salvation as well as others’
  • Accept the Lord
  • Remember
  • Declare
  • Refuse to abandon the Savior
  • Stay close to Him through prayer and scripture study
  • Draw near to Him
  • Prepare for and partake of the sacrament
  • Keep covenants
  • Celebrate/anticipate His return

More than witnessing of Him, we should build our lives around Him, which will give us a foundation that cannot fail.
